Sinus lift or maxillary sinus floor augmentation is a procedure that grafts bone into the sinus cavity located behind the cheek bone for dental implant placement. This is most commonly done to replace missing teeth in the upper posterior jaw. This procedure is either completed at the time of dental implant placement or the implant is placed after the graft procedure has healed, which usually involves around 4-6 months healing time. Grafted bone increases the success and longevity of dental implants by allowing for a better quality bone for the implant to fuse. A CT scan or 3-dimensional x-ray will be taken by your dental specialist to decide if a sinus lift is needed.
