If you are having a tooth removed, our office can create a temporary appliance for use during the healing period.

After the surgery, leave the appliance in place overnight, unless instructed otherwise.  The following morning you may remove it, rinse it thoroughly, and place it back in your mouth. It acts as a bandage and minimizes swelling.

Wear the appliance constantly for the first 3 days. It may be removed in the morning and after meals to clean. Use a toothbrush and toothpaste to brush it, and rinse it before replacing in mouth.  Do not use bleach or boil the appliance for it will permanently damage it and a new one will have to be made.

Two weeks after the surgery, you may begin removing the appliance at night while you sleep – this will to allow the healed gum tissue to breath.
